Om Factory School of Yoga: Our Graduates

As Om Factory approaches its Spring 2012 yoga teacher training, we wanted to catch up with some of our program’s graduates to find out what they loved most about Om Factory School of Yoga, how they use their education today -- and why they’d do it all over again.

In this first installment, we sat down with Laura Murchie, a graduate of Om Factory School of Yoga's Spring 2011 training.

SPOTLIGHT ON: LAURA MURCHIE

On Lessons She Learned
“The biggest thing I took from training was perspective. It is such an emotional journey (that I hadn't expected!) and the training helped me gain a better understanding of myself, how I can fit into the world around me, and a new way to understand that world. I learned a new way to see things, a new lens through which to see myself and the world around me. That was one of the most valuable tools that I gained from the training.

On Lead Instructor Holly Coles
I think Holly had the biggest impact on me. I really related to the way she presented the information, especially the more general concepts and ideas. She has such a distinct personality, and I think that her attitude and view towards different life lessons and challenges help me see things in a different way. I understand myself better because of some of the advice she offered me!

On Broadening Her Perspective
[OFSY] really opened my mind up to new ideas and concepts... I also realized how much yoga permeates daily life, from simple things like posture to broader philosophical concepts and ideas. Yoga is everywhere and has become an integral part of my life.

On Why OFSY is THE Place to Train
Everything is so well done! I felt I had every resource that I needed, from handouts to mentors. The program is comprehensive and incredibly supportive. The material is presented in a way that's easy to digest, and there are many forums to put those teachings into practice. The hands-on experience [of the student-taught community classes] make this training unique and [it is] such a necessary tool to really make the learning effective. Whether or not you plan on teaching it is an eye-opening experience that teaches its students a new way to see themselves and the world we live in.”
